Week of January 25th


This week in class:

Students will learn that the United States Constitution created federalism and a balance of power. Also, we will learn how a regional debate over slavery led to the Three-Fifths Compromise.

This week in class, students will learn that the American people examined many ideas about government, and the Confederate Congress established the Northwest Territory.

This week:

Students will learn that: The American Patriots finally defeated the British at the Battle of Yorktown, and the British and the Americans officially ended the war by signing the Treaty of Paris.

Writing Assignment on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr due Tuesday: 1/19
"Dr. Martin Luther King gave a famous speech entitled 'I Have a Dream.' In this speech, King shared his dream of a world where all people lived in peace and harmony -- regardless of their skin color. Write about a dream you have for making the world a better place."

This Week...


Students will learn that many Americans supported the war effort. France and Spain helped the Patriots fight the British. The winter of Valley Forge tested the strength of Patriot troops. The war continued at sea and in the West.

Writing Assignment due Friday 1/8/2010:

"You are a colonist in 1776. Write a letter to a friend still in England persuading him or her to accept the idea that America is justified in declaring its independence."
